How do I make an image background transparent?

If you have found or created an image and want to make its background transparent there are many third party tools that can help you with this task.  Third-party online tools we would personally recommend:

 

CLIPPING MAGIC EXAMPLE:

To convert an image background to transparent using Clipping Magic, you upload your image to Clipping Magic, using the online tool you run a RED ‘marker’ pen roughly over the areas you want to remove, and a GREEN ‘marker’ pen over the areas you want to keep.  Then download it:

LUNAPIC EXAMPLE:

To covert an image background to transparent using Luna Pic, upload your image, allow the system to automatically remove the background.  This is less precise, but often it is all that is needed, and its free.  Alternatively, LunaPic does have some other transparency tools that work in different ways to get similar results to Clipping Magic.  The following example used LunaPic’s automatic transparency tool:
